In response to parent’s concerns over recent news reports of SUDS (Sudden Unexpected Death Syndrome), we’re pleased to announce that AOKC is now offering heart screenings. Our first screening date is Saturday, Sept. 29.
Over 5,000 student athletes are lost each year due to SUDS because of detectable yet undiagnosed heart conditions. In conjunction with SportsFit USA, we have developed a cost effective test to help prevent these tragedies and give parents peace of mind. For the price of a pair of sneakers, student athletes can now get a life-saving echocardiogram/echodoppler screening to detect structural cardiovascular abnormalities. The testing is performed by SportsFit USA, who has a specialized cardiac staff and a local board-certified cardiologist who interprets the exams.
Details on the screening are found below. Please forward this to the student athletes and families.
